1950 saw the release of the second Superman movie serial 'Atom Man vs. Superman', a 15-chapter saga. The villain in this drama is actually Lex Luthor in disguise and the main storyline deals with Luthor's use of a teleportation device to work heists at remote locations of his choosing. The movie itself is huge fun, the better of the two Superman serials. The poster is terrific, with colorful graphics that grab you at first sight and don't release their control over you until you have taken in every visible detail. From the top of the bold title banner, to the bottom of the credits, this poster is a marvelous study in composition, measuring a full 27 1/4" X 40 3/4" in size. The main character is huge, and is clearly warring with an insideous, helmeted threat who is armed with a lethal ray device. There are illustrated action scenes running down the right border as well. Nicely placed at the bottom left is a large black and white inset photo window from Chapter 1 of the serial, entitled 'Superman Flies Again'. It is a classic and most desireable image of Kirk Alyn flying over the city of Metropolis. The fact that the main subject appears in the inset window is a huge plus, as most serial posters do not depict the main character. The fact that the poster itself is from the first chapter, makes it doubly special, a real keeper! The poster has been professionally linen-backed, mainly for conservation purposes and needed very little in the way of touch up or repair. The usual fold-line separation was meticulously mended so that the poster displays as virtually immaculate. There were some small border chips that were neatly filled and airbrushed over. These flaws are really only noticeable to the trained eye and are only visible upon close inspection. Overall appearance is Near Mint condition, but I will give it a technical grade of Very Fine.
