1950 Marques Haynes Globetrotter Most Valuable Player Trophy from the Marques Haynes Collection. This beautiful award is impressive for its design and its significance. It was awarded in 1950 with the following inscription: "Most Valuable Globetrotter Award - 1950 World Series of Basketball - College All-Americans vs. Harlem Globetrotters - won by Marques O. Haynes." 1950 was the inaugural year for the World Series of Basketball and this was the first trophy of its kind awarded. The trophy is missing the small players who appeared on the pedestals on each side of the base. The metal has some modest wear; it does show a few "nicks" and "dings," and some oxidation opposite the viewing side. However, it remains visually stunning, standing over three feet high and nearly two feet across. It has considerable gloss and is absent of any serious defects aside from the two missing pieces.
