This non square-bound issue was experimental for Marvel at the time and may have saved the Publisher money by "saddle-stitching" (stapling), instead of using a "perfect-bind" (glued on cover), but wasn't very accomodating to collectors, as these early saddle-stitched covers tended to split very easily, especially if read.
