A rare uncut sheet of 25 tobacco cards produced by Ogden's Cigarettes in 1901. The 25-card sheet contains cards from two different series, including a complete 17-card set of 'Heroes of the Ring' featuring many of the leading boxers from England and the United States of the era. Subjects include Peter Maher, Jim Mace, Jack O'Brien, Tom Sharkey, Charlie Mitchell, James J. Corbett, Jim Carney, James J. Jeffries, John L. Sullivan, Jem Barry and Bob Fitzsimmons. The remaining 8 cards are from the 'Leading Athletes' series and display athletes from various sports. They were obviously added to the sheet to save money in printing. The fronts are photographic images of the boxers and athletes and are the same as those on many earlier U.S. tobacco sets The sheet measures 7 7/8" X 13" and is in overall Very Fine condition and is free of the usual creasing associated with uncut card sheets. The top border has a slight rough cut to it and has a slight 1/2" edge tear that barely intrudes into the Jim Mace card. A rare, probably unique piece of boxing and sports memorabilia in superb condition. Would be a welcome addition to even the most advanced collection.
