The Finest Charles Lindbergh Signed Photo
12/31/1969
Near Mint

He is called the first international icon of the 20th Century and is credited with ushering in our current mass media treatment and obsession with celebrities. The infamous kidnapping of his son has also been responsible for infusing the Lindbergh name and legend with an air of mystery. And yet, as remarkable as Charles Lindbergh and the Spirit of St. Louis were, we like to remember him as an uncomplicated person capable of extraordinary things. A 25-year old farmboy confident enough to take on a challenge, simply by virtue of being 25 and able to fly...and more likely in need of the $25,000 award than three pilots before him who died trying to claim. And even more curious is the fact that, in the years since Lindbergh made the very first solo flight from New York to Paris, everyone seems to take for granted this gift of flight that Lindbergh and men and women like him have given us. It's rather ironic that flight remains among the favorite of all "Superpowers" when its presence in our everyday life has become so mundane. Even amid the hoopla, Lindbergh always seemed to have a smaller alter-ego, more the farmboy than the famed flyer, more the airmail pilot than the country's golden boy. He was quietly devoted to his wife Anne Morrow, until his death in remote Hawaii in 1974. This Charles Lindbergh signed sepia photo is a veritable gift from above! "Lucky Lindy's" mesmerizing gaze and his reliable airplane, the Spirit of St. Louis as a backdrop illuminate the 8" X 10" posed shot, which features a bolder-than-bold "10" signature, "C. A. Lindbergh". The all-important image and signature areas are in stellar NM/MT condition, with an infinitesimal pinhole evident at the top center. Its white perimeter bears a second trivial pinhole and a small corner crease in the extreme perimeter of the upper left corner, mostly obscured by the ornate and very expensive, easel-back silver frame. The clarity, quality, and integrity of this piece is beyond compare. Here is soul-stirring Americana at its best! LOA's from James Spence, Steve Grad and John Reznikoff, well known autograph experts.
