Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball
1933
Near Mint

An autograph collector's dream piece, this "Babe Ruth Home Run Special" baseball boasts signatures that rate among the finest from these Yankee ultra-legends ever found together on a single sphere! The Babe's sweet spot gem rates a solid 9/10, while his teammate and oftentimes fiercest competitor, Gehrig does him one better on the side panel with a flawless 10/10 specimen! If the details ended here, this ball would make a serious challenge for the status of one of the finest known Ruth/Gehrig signature balls and as such would command a price approaching $50,000. However, the ball is signed by a third party as well, Ralph "Cy" Perkins, a member of the 1931 Yankees, whose signature is equal in quality to Babe and Lou's. The ball itself shows mild, even toning with very minor incidents of foxing, and one pinprick of a brown mark that touches the flawless Gehrig signature. Included with the ball is a program from August 19, 1933 from the Comiskey Park game where this ball was signed. The program is glued onto a scrapbook page along with a newspaper clipping recounting the game, and noting that the Babe clubbed his 28th home run of the season that day and another scrapbook page with the ticket stub from the game and more news clipping affixed. Accompanying these items is a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA, which also notes that a couple other light signatures have been arased from the ball completely.
