Ken Kelly "Lion's Den" Original Conan Painting
30" X 40"
Near Mint

This exciting oil painting depicts Conan and female companion surrounded by a pride of no less than seven ferocious sabre-toothed cats! The entire work is a writhing mass of muscles, and it is considered to be one of the best of Kelly's Conan works. This painting was created in 1990 specifically for use as the cover to the artist's first spotlight book, The Art of Ken Kelly, and it has since been used on a full-sized poster, as part of a card set, and in advertising pieces. Kelly said about this work: "I wanted to put this warrior in as much trouble as the Conan character gets in. Also, because this was to be the cover for my first book, I deliberately put in as many extra items, and as many cats as I could squeeze in. I wanted it very powerful and very memorable." The oil painting was executed on art-board and has been signed and dated "1990" by Kelly in the lower left corner. The framed painting has an exposed image size of 29 1/4" X 39 1/2" that appears to remain in a flawless state of preservation!
